fall in love with the magic of film

Film can be an expensive medium to master. If you’re not exposing, focusing, or operating your camera properly, it can be a lot of money wasted in the process. This is why I have bundled up all my (20 years!) of technical know-how so you don’t have to waste time and money learning this beautiful form of photography.

This course is for ANYONE (photographer or not) who wants to document their life in a thoughtful way, reignite their creative spark, learn to operate your grandpa’s old film camera and make photos filled with warmth and nostalgia.

We go through everything from what film camera to choose to how to meter in multiple lighting scenarios in order to get the best results from your film, saving you time, frustration, and money in the process.

this course is for you if you are…

in a creative rut

not booking aligned, dream clients

a chronic overshooter, bogging yourself down with images to cull

feeling like your work is comparable to every other photographer in your area

about Christen

I’ve always been a photographer. When people ask, “what did you do before you were a photographer?” — I don’t really have an answer because it’s all I’ve ever done. I have my BA in Commercial Photography and have worked in the wedding industry, e-commerce studios, and now I run my own freelance photography business.

I made this course because I truly, truly adore film. It’s what I learned on (although admittedly, I mostly signed up for my first high school photography class to hang out with my friends). But oh my goodness, what a life-altering choice that was! I became obsessed with making photos, developing my own film, and working in the darkroom.

My career took me into the digital world for a bit, but I have always photographed my personal life on film to some extent. And now my business is run by shooting 100% on film. It’s timeless. You don’t look back on your editing choices and think “why on earth did I follow that trend?” Film always just works and looks amazing if you shoot it right!

I hope this SHOOT FILM mini course can help you dust off that old film camera and start making images that reignite your creative spark and help you start to notice and appreciate the beauty of your everyday life.
