WHY FILM PHOTOGRAPHY?
Shooting family sessions on film adds a certain magic I can’t get any other way.
Film has its own unique qualities - its rich colour, soft focus, nostalgic grain and how it captures light the way our memories actually feel.
Shooting film in 2025 also connects me and a lot of my clients to their own family photos. Most of our own parents captured our childhood on this medium because it was the only choice they had! So when I get film scans back, I’m immediately hit with that same warm, nostalgic feeling of looking through my own childhood photos.
I truly, truly adore film. It’s what I learned on (although admittedly, I mostly signed up for my first high school photography class to hang out with my friends). But oh my goodness, what a life-altering choice that was! I became obsessed with making photos, developing my own film, and working in the darkroom.
My career took me into the digital world for a bit, but I have always photographed my personal life on film to some extent. And now my business is run by shooting 100% on film. It’s timeless. I don’t look back on MY editing choices and think “why on earth did I follow that trend?” Film always just works and looks amazing if you shoot it right.
Film holds the warmth of the moment in a way that digital just can’t touch.
Working with 35mm + 120 film also slows me down in the best way. I’m more deliberate, more present, more tuned in to the small things happening between you and your kids.
Every frame matters, which makes the whole experience feel more intentional and personal.
